For the last 7 years, Keith Gordon expertly served our Queen Street customers. To The Healthy Butcher, he was a cook, a writer, a lover of great meat and fresh oysters, and a faithful employee and manager.

We are a young team, and Keith happened to be ten years older than the next oldest employee; as such, he was in many ways a father figure at the store. His humour, wit, and sheer passion for food were unparalleled. In 2010, he and his partner, Liz, appeared on the Food Network’s “Dinner Party Wars” where they competed and won against two other couples with their “Duck Three Ways” menu.

On September 3rd, while managing the store, Keith fainted.  He was brought to the hospital. Two days later after many tests, he was diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer that had already metastasized. On October 28th, he passed away. Everyone who knew him - from colleagues to customers to friends - learned something from him. We didn't just lose an employee; we lost a trusted source of knowledge and laughter.

Above all, we lost a significant member of The Healthy Butcher family.  Keith will be sorely missed.

A celebration of Keith's life will be planned in the near future. Anyone who knew him and wishes to attend, please email us at
